
KEY2Life Foodbank is once again joining forces with South Tyneside Council to deliver the Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF) Summer Holiday Club to make sure children stay fed and entertained during the upcoming holidays.
The charity is providing free activities and nutritious meals for children and young people in the borough, age 4 to 16 years old, who are eligible for benefits related free school meals or who are part of a family currently experiencing hardship.
The activities and food provision will take place on selected days from Monday 25 July until Friday 2 September.
This year, KEY2Life is gearing up for a bumper summer to deliver double the usual holiday fun, thanks to an exciting and innovative new partnership with the New Sundial, one of South Tyneside’s premier entertainment venues, more details below (keep scrolling down!).
Free meal kits plus boredom-busting crafts at KEY2Life
KEY2Life will be providing FREE meal kits plus boredom busting crafts(one meal per booked child) from its base at Boldon Lane Library to feed and entertain up to 30 kids per day, twice a week.
While the kids are safely occupied, parents/carers will be able to access a range of practical help and support: with debt management, food budgeting, fuel costs, mobile data, school uniform and more.
Fun crafts – including kite-making, sand art and suncatcher stained glass craft – will be provided on a stay and play basis from 11am-3pm. In addition, each child will receive a recipe bag with all the ingredients to create a nutritious meal at home.

FREE beach-themed activities plus hot meal at the New Sundial
KEY2Life and the New Sundial, are teaming up to provide an additional seafront based offering this summer – a whole load of FREE beach-themed activities plus hot meal(one meal per booked child)to feed and entertain up to 40 kids per day, twice a week.
Kids will have a whale of a time down at the beach enjoying pirate capers with Captain Raggy Beard and seashore safari activities with Ranger Jane’s beach school then it’s all back to the function room at the New Sundial for lunch and activities including crafts, party games and storytelling.

We are operating on a trust based booking system which will hopefully allow families who will really benefit from free meals and activities, to access them.
The Summer Holiday Club is funded by the Department for Education’s holiday activities and food programme 2022. As part of this funding, there is criteria regarding eligibility which includes children receiving benefits related free school meals or children who are part of a family experiencing hardship. All recipients of the funding must follow this criteria.
